Interference in TDD based LMDS systems

In this paper different aspects concerning interference in TDD (Time Division Duplexing) based LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution Systems) systems are considered. The most important interference situations are desribed and where appropriate comparisons with FDD (Frequency Division Duplexing) based systems will be made. Both intrasystem (between different operators’ networks) and intersystem (within an operator’s network) interference are considered. In all cases, the situation where the base station (BS) is a victim of interference is examined more closely, as this could impinge on the whole cell management. Different methods for controlling and mitigating inteference are described. Finally, the impact on architecture design and trade-offs are underlined and conclusions drawn.
